Aquapolis 2100

Created in a Works on Water residency on Governors Island and screened internationally as part of the Under the Subway Video Art Festival, Aquapolis 2100 explores New York City’s rising sea levels, which could rise up 6 feet by 2100. Each weekend of their Works on Water residency in summer 2018, the artists invited visitors to Governor’s Island to draw what they imagine New York might look like in 2100 and sketch ideas — both practical and fantastical — about what they could do to deal with the rising water level. This video piece features animations of these drawings set in the backdrop of an increasingly watery New York.

A collaborative project by Laura Chipley, A.E. Souzis and Samara Smith.
